Your baby develops throughout your pregnancy inside your uterus. The uterus is designed to stretch and allow the baby to grow.
The cervix
The cervix is the opening of the uterus and stays closed throughout pregnancy.
The cervix (in labour)
During labour, the cervix shortens and opens to allow the baby to exit the uterus. If the cervix opens fully and the baby drops into the pelvis, the baby can be delivered through the vagina.
The C-section
In a C-section, your baby is delivered through your abdomen.
A low bikini-cut skin incision is made (in most cases) followed by a small opening in your uterus.
