Difficult Cholecystectomies Classification
The classification system for non-conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy is outlined below. The purpose of the classification is to help organize strategies for dealing with severely inflamed gallbladders laparoscopically in a safe fashion. The surgical approach will be informed by the patient's condition and modified depending on aspects encountered during surgery. The presence and degree of inflammation in particular will impact surgical decision making. In all cases, every effort should be made to fully dissect the Triangle of Calot and achieve the Critical View of Safety. When this is not possible, measures must be taken to ensure patient safety.
