In most laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures, a standard approach to visualize the important structures in Calot's triangle is used. Under certain circumstances, the dissection may be difficult and even dangerous.
Utilizing important anatomic landmarks and different tricks for dissection, safe visualization the cystic duct and artery can be achieved.
In severe circumstances, the decision to change the surgical plan to a subtotal cholecystectomy should be considered as a valid and safe alternative approach.
