Introduction

The process of case development is facilitated by using a template of all the history questions, functional assessment questions, physical examinations, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging and consultation with specialists that might be carried out in the course of arriving at a diagnosis. The results of all the actions in the template are those of a normal person with no clinical abnormalities. Cases can then be created by substituting abnormal findings at appropriate places in the template, and inserting feedback and scoring for these actions which will appear in the debriefing.

Many templates

The first template we have created is be suitable for developing cases for general internal medicine, family medicine or emergency medicine. This basic template can be expanded with more detailed items that would be appropriate for other specialties. The basic template can also be modified for each gender and for a range of ages.
