Last week TVASurg team members attended Vistek’s ProFusion Expo, to check out some of the newest gear and trends in photography and videography.
Profusion Expo is a free two-day event in Toronto for professionals and camera enthusiasts. With over a hundred exhibitors, the newest equipment is showcased, and many products are launched for the first time in Canada.
TVASurg is always exploring new gear to improve our video quality and filming process. Filming in the operating room posts many unique challenges such as limited space, inconsistent lighting, narrow fields of view and hard-to-film angles. With our atlas expanding into different surgical specialities, we are also facing many new challenges and changes to our workflow. This expo was a great opportunity for us to explore, experiment, and compare different equipment including cameras, lenses, gimbals, lighting and audio kits.
Checked out a camera gimbal at DJI booth.
Experimented with a video camera at Blackmagic Design booth.
Aside from trying out camera gear, we also had a chance to learn from other industry professionals through live demonstrations and inspiring talks. Cinematographer Mikey Schaefer took us through his emotional journey of filming the Academy Award winning documentary Free Solo. Landscape and nature photographer Dave Brosha revealed the creative process of shooting a photo with lasting impact. Photographer Rick Ferro discussed the light setup for a natural looking portrait shot.

It was a fun and productive day, and we can’t wait to integrate the lessons we learned into our OR filming soon!
